The Hockinson Hawks won a share of the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League with a second to spare.

Jess Krahn received a pass from Alan Haagen and scored with a second on the clock, giving the Hawks a 53-52 victory over Washougal.

Hockinson improved to 6-2, tied with Mark Morris for first place.

The Hawks did lose a coin flip for seeding, though, and will head to the district tournament as the No. 2 seed from the GSHL. Hockinson is scheduled to host W.F. West on Saturday in the opening round of district.

Washougal took a 52-51 lead with 12 seconds left after crashing the boards for two offensive rebounds and then a putback.

Hockinson called a timeout with 7 seconds left, calling a play for Haagen.

“He drove to the hoop, attracting four defenders,” Hockinson coach Trevor Person said. “Krahn dove to the hoop. He passed it to Jess.”

Washougal did not have any timeouts and the clock hit zero before the Panthers could inbound the ball.

Jack Klodt led Hockinson with 16 points. Haagen finished with 10.

Noah Prangley led Washougal with 19 points.
