Weekly honor is sponsored by Athletes Corner

Wylicia Faley of Battle Ground bowling has been selected as The Columbian’s high school winter sports athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Feb. 8.

Because last week’s snow postponements created fewer prep events than a normal prep week, there was no vote for athlete of the week.

Faley set a state-tournament record with a six-game total of 1,397 to beat out Skyview’s Madison Crockett for her second Class 4A state individual bowling title in three years. In her second game, she took a perfect game into the tenth frame before finishing with a 277. She also led the Battle Ground team to its third consecutive 4A team state title.

The voting for athlete of the week will resume next week. Nominees and the online ballot are posted at 360preps.com each Monday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.
