The Washington Secretary of State’s Office this week launched its annual contest inviting children to submit art for the state voters’ pamphlet.

This year’s theme is “Happy Birthday, Washington!” to mark the 125th anniversary of statehood. Washington became the 42nd U.S. state in 1889.

The contest is open to fourth- and fifth-grade students. The winning entry will be featured in the more than 3 million copies of the statewide voters’ pamphlet, sent out to Washington households before the November general election.

Entries are due by April 16. More information about the contest, including the entry form, is available through the Secretary of State’s Office online at http://www.sos.wa.gov/.
