Some defensive breakdowns and a lot of Bonney Lake free throws late helped end the Chieftains’ season at the 3A bi-district tournament.

Columbia River held a four-point lead early in fourth quarter but defensive breakdowns led to easy Bonney Lake baskets.

After the Panthers took the lead, they held it by hitting on 7 of 9 free throws late.

Teaghan Cowles hit a 3-pointer with 45 seconds left to get River within three, but the Chieftains would draw no closer.

Megan Bloom had seven points and nine rebounds for River, and Kate Kraft added five rebounds.

Coach Carl Click was pleased with the Chieftains’ improvement this season.

“We went from four wins last year to 13 wins this year,” he said.
