I read recent reporting about the foul up of the trucking companies compounding recent storm conditions. Trucks waited bumper to bumper for delivery, company owners were testy and drivers were impatient. Drivers compounded transportation safety on Interstate 5 and Interstate 205 main roads trying to get our children home and drivers spent hours on the road.
Trucking companies continue to wear down the roads and cause massive accidents trying to make unreasonable deadlines. The Legislature is in gridlock over the money being issued for road repair in Washington. Millions used to repair roads could be poured into train tracks and repairs, making them safer and removing traffic from the highways. Railroads could be used to carry people to work and freight, with express runs to terminals in Oregon and Washington. MAX light rail has been efficient for the people in Portland. Stop “one person to a car” and replace it with mass transit delivering people and goods to both states. The money allotted for transportation could be used to free up traffic and deliver passengers and goods by rail more safely and efficiently.
