Mass-Lowell tops Albany (NY) in overtime 70-66

LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — Akeem Williams scored 20 points, including three free throws late in overtime, and had eight assists as Mass-Lowell topped Albany (N.Y.) 70-66 on Wednesday.

The teams were tied at 63 with 2:58 left in overtime after Gary Johnson’s layup for Albany. Mass-Lowell (4-11, 3-1 American East) then got a layup and free throw from Kerry Weldon and single free throws from DJ Mlachnik and Williams to go up by five with 23 seconds left.

DJ Evans drilled a trey for Albany (8-9, 2-2) with 15 seconds to cut it to two. Johnson missed a 3-pointer and Williams then made a pair of free throws with 4 seconds left to ice the win for the River Hawks.

Weldon finished with 13 points and nine rebounds for Mass-Lowell while Antonio Bivins added 12.

Johnson, Evans and Sam Rowley all had 13 points for Albany and Ede Egharevba added 12.
