The visiting Hawks jumped out quickly on the Panthers, then salted away the victory from the free throw line.

Jack Klodt scored a game-high 19 points for Hockinson (12-3, 2-1 2A GSHL), which led 17-6 after one period then was 15 of 18 from the stripe in the last eight minutes after Washougal pulled within 37-35 after three quarters.

“The press bothered us in the first quarter, then after that, we were able to handle that,” Washougal coach Malcolm Estes said. “In the fourth quarter when they pulled away, we had some unforced turnovers and some silly mistakes.”

Yorro Bah scored 12 points and austin Tran added 11 for the Panthers (3-11, 0-3), who had reserves step up as the team faced early foul trouble.

“Defensively, we played well, but they made plays when they needed to,” Estes said of the Hawks. “The Hockinson kids made the plays at the end of the game. We’re getting better, but that’s how it goes.”
