An 88-year-old Salmon Creek man who drove away from his home on Friday was found safe in southern Oregon, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office reported Sunday morning.

Don Allen Meisenbach drove to the Sutherlin Police Department, where he asked an officer for help, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

He was “in good spirits and appeared fine,” according to the news release, but as a precaution he was transported to Mercy Medical Hospital in Roseburg, Ore. Police made arrangements for Meisenbach to be reunited with his family and brought home.

Meisenbach has “a developing memory condition” and left Friday with his wallet but not his hearing aids or his cell phone, according to the sheriff’s office.
