Letter: One small act can make a difference

Imagine a world where no people help each other unless it benefits themselves. The problem is, we have begun drifting into that world. I see the homeless lying on the sidewalks, with people just walking around them. I also watch as my friends and family ask acquaintances for a favor and they do not hesitate to say “no.” It is ourselves as citizens who are causing this problem. If we don’t fix it soon, our community bonds of trust will be fractured. We must work together as a community to mend these broken bonds.

I have taken the time to look up a website where you can volunteer for local nonprofits. The address is www.americantowns.com/wa/vancouver-make-a-difference, Here you can volunteer for many types of nonprofits quickly, all at one site. By volunteering, you can change people’s lives and make new friends you can trust.

If you do not have time to volunteer, you can donate to organizations that are working to fix big problems. If you do this, you will be helping those in need and you will have changed a life.

Our community must start helping others. I ask you to please be generous to others. Even if it is just giving a single apple to a homeless person.
