VANCOUVER — The first fundraising event for the Pearson Field Education Center raised $130,500 this month, the Fort Vancouver National Trust announced.

That was in addition to the designated support from the trust of $40,000.

The money will support the trust’s aviation education programs, including aviation summer camps, education resource fairs, open cockpit days, school outreach programs and free Saturday learning labs.

The total included a surprise from BNSF Railway: a $10,000 grant to help expand aviation education access for at-risk and disadvantaged youth.

The education and outreach programs had been based at Pearson Air Museum. After the National Park Service took over museum management in 2013, the Trust moved its programs to the Pearson Field facility, 201 E. Reserve St., northeast of the Aero Maintenance Flight Center.

The fundraiser was sponsored by Columbia Credit Union and Blairco Inc.
