Hearing to focus on sales of older vessels

The state Department of Natural Resources this month will host a public meeting in Vancouver focusing on the sale of older, longer vessels in response to a new state law approved last year.

In 2013, the Washington Legislature strengthened the state’s ability to address derelict or abandoned vessels. The law requires inspections of vessels longer than 65 feet and older than 40 years prior to transfers. That rule is set to take effect in July, but first requires public input, according to DNR.

The department will hold a public hearing from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 26 at the Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St. Other hearings will be held in Mount Vernon and Seattle.

People may also send written comments to Lisa Randlette at lisa.randlette@dnr.wa.gov or by mail to Lisa Randlette, DVRP rules coordinator, Washington State Department of Natural Resources, M.S. 47027, Olympia, WA 98504.
