Clark baseball finishes home schedule with doubleheader sweep

First came strong pitching. Next came clutch hitting.

The Clark College baseball team swept a doubleheader over Mt. Hood on Saturday to close out its home schedule.

Kevin Hamman threw a complete game and struck out eight as Clark won the first game 5-1. Kyle Vanderkin and Michael Gonzalez each had three hits for the Penguins.

Clark won the nightcap 6-5 in 10 innings. Vanderkin ended the game with a two-out single, raising his batting average to .385.With four wins in two days, Clark (27-11, 17-7) now leads the NWAACC South Region.

The Penguins conclude their regular season with doubleheaders at Chemeketa, Lane and Clackamas. The NWAACC tournament begins May 22 in Longview.

Softball swept at Mt. Hood — The Clark College softball team lost Saturday at Mt. Hood 4-1 and 22-0. The Penguins fell to 1-15 in NWAACC play.
