State troopers are investigating a three-vehicle crash that killed a Winlock man Friday morning on state Highway 14 near the Clark-Skamania county line.

The crash was reported around 8:30 a.m. at Milepost 22 about three miles east of Washougal.

A Chevrolet pickup, driven by Joseph M. Sparks, 27, was traveling west on the highway, entered a curve on a hill and reportedly lost control, according to the Washington State Patrol. The pickup crossed the center dividing line and sheared the side of an eastbound U-Haul box truck before it traveled into the eastbound lanes and struck an oncoming tractor trailer, according to the WSP.

Sparks was pronounced dead at the scene, said Trooper Will Finn. The driver of the U-Haul, Ann E. Duffy, 43, of Silver City, N.M. and the tractor trailer driver, Shelbi D. Deadmond, 24, of Pacific were not injured.

The highway was closed until about 1:15 p.m. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the WSP.
