Educator Twyla Barnes, named Clark County’s First Citizen for 2014, will be honored at the 74th annual First Citizen Award Ceremony.

The event is 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Hilton Vancouver Washington, 301 W. Sixth St. It will begin with an opening social hour featuring beverages and light hors d’oeuvres. A formal award presentation for Barnes will follow. The event is organized by the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington and The Columbian. Barnes was chosen for the honor by a committee of community leaders and past First Citizens.

Barnes served as the superintendent for ESD 112 for two decades and served in many volunteer roles in the community, leading the way for better early learning options, and access to higher education, health care and economic development partnerships.

Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online at www.columbian.com/firstcitizen, or by calling Audri Bomar, The Columbian’s community partnership manager, at 360-735-4466.
