Oregon Iron Works, which last week announced that it won a major contract for steel fabrication work on a $1.9 billion transit hub in San Francisco, also said last week that it will employ some 40 to 50 people for the project over a two-year period.

Those employees will work at the company’s manufacturing plants in Vancouver and in Clackamas, Ore.

“At this time, we expect those to be jobs retained but there is a potential for new hires as we move further along in the fabrication,” said Caitlin Sause, the company’s director of government and public affairs, in an email. Sause did not have a specific contract amount, but estimated the work would run into the “tens of millions of dollars.”

San Francisco’s Transbay Transit Center in the city’s downtown is expected to generate more than 7,000 jobs at the site and through off-site contractor work, Oregon Iron Works said last week.
