Event to celebrate award, CRC’s demise

A public gathering next week will celebrate this year’s demise of the Columbia River Crossing project, and an award recently given to a group that has advocated for a third bridge across the Columbia River.

The nonprofit Third Bridge Now, led by Portland resident Sharon Nasset, was recognized by the American Dream Coalition during a conference in Colorado last month. Third Bridge Now received the “American Dreamer” award “in appreciation for their hard work in helping to kill the Columbia River Crossing.”

The CRC, which shut down in May, would have replaced the Interstate 5 Bridge and extended light rail into Vancouver. Third Bridge Now opposed the project, and has called for a new span connecting Vancouver and Portland, west of I-5.

A celebration will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in the lounge of the Red Lion Hotel Vancouver at the Quay, 100 Columbia St.

The event is open to the public, according to Third Bridge Now.
