Top seeds advance at 4A district tennis

The top four seeds advanced to the semifinals at the 4A district boys tennis tournament at Vancouver Tennis Center on Friday.

No. 1 Colton Reed of Mountain View dropped just two games in two matches to reach today’s semifinal.

No. 2 Andrew Kabacey of Skyview, No. 3 Alex Calpagiu of Union, and No. 4 Johnathan Ho of Camas all advanced with straight-set wins.

No. 1 doubles seed Tyler Sparling and Nick Shiraishi of Mountain View, and No. 2 Alex Osler and Christian Bickmore of Skyview advanced to the semifinals along with No. 5 Andrew Chanthavong and Colton Chambers of Union and No. 6 Justin Yee and Mark Bajtay of Mountain View.

With no bi-district tournament, the finalists in singles and doubles qualify for state in May.

Semifinals begin at 8 a.m. today with the finals to follow.

2A DISTRICT — Hudson’s Bay’s doubles team of seniors Dat Vo and Thanh Vo qualified for the 2A state tournament by reaching the doubles final at the 2A district tournament in Longview on Friday.

They opened with a win over W.F. West’s Sean Touhey and Jeffery Tereski, 6-4, 6-0, and then defeated Tumwater’s Devin Reich and Cole Holbrook, 6-1, 7-5 in the semifinal.

In singles, Hudson’s Bay’s Aleksandr Mertvyy and Jose Ignacio Perez remained alive by winning consolation matches.

The tournament at Mint Valley Racquet Club concludes today.

The top four finishers qualify for state in May.
