Marilyn Allen and Myrna Brown of Vancouver were part of a women’s volleyball team that won a silver medal this month at the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah.

Their team, the Washington Reign, finished second in the six-a-side tournament for women 73 and older.

Allen and Brown are sisters who have played volleyball for decades in city and church leagues in Vancouver. This was the third year in a row they traveled to Utah to participate in the Huntsman World Senior Games. Their team won gold medals the previous two years.

“We love to play volleyball,” Brown said. “Plus, we like the challenge of a little competition.”

Allen and Brown were two of seven players on a team that also featured players from the Seattle area. They played three games to 25 points each day during three days of pool play. In the playoffs, the Reign lost to a Texas team in the final match.

“We gave them a run for their money anyway,” Brown said.

The Huntsman World Senior Games are open to all athletes 50 and older. They have been held annually for 28 years. This October, a record 10,850 athletes registered for the Games, which featured 27 different sports.

“It really is a good event,” Allen said. “It’s very welcoming. And it is a beautiful place to go.”

Pickleball — Rosalie Knutsen of Washougal won two bronze medals in pickleball at the Huntsman Senior World Games. She teamed with Alice Dodgson of Michigan to place third in the 75-79 age division women’s doubles tournament. They also took the bronze in women’s skill doubles for the 3.0 skill level, ages 65 and older.
