Week 2 fall sports athlete of the week nominees

Nominees for high school fall athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Sept. 20. Voting will conclude at 8 p.m. Thursday with results published in Friday’s Columbian.

AUSTIN BLANKENSHIP, COLUMBIA RIVER BOYS CROSS COUNTRY, placed fourth on the hard course in 19:53 at the Three Course Challenge in Seaside.

BELLA CAUGHIE, UNION GIRLS SOCCER, a defender, led the backline defense for the Titans as they opened 4A GSHL play with back-to-back shutouts over Mountain View and Skyview.

COLTON REED, MOUNTAIN VIEW TENNIS, advanced to the finals of the Flight 1 singles bracket at the Thunder Invitational before falling to Ryan Adams of Olympia 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 (third-set tiebreaker).

KARI STAPLES, KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN VOLLEYBALL, had 35 kills, eight digs, three assists and three blocks in two Trico League wins for the Knights..

COLLEEN WOODS, HERITAGE SWIMMING, was the top scorer at the Sprint Pentathlon in Longview, winning the 25-yard individual medley, 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 25 backstroke.
