U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, has proven once again that her interests in politics are about the party and its corporate benefactors, and not the views of her constituents. Despite the fact that the majority of Americans support access to important information about the contents of their food, and expect the right to control their local and regional politics, Herrera Beutler voted to support H.R. 1599, known as the DARK Act, “a bill that would overturn state genetically engineered (GE) food labeling laws, block FDA (the Food and Drug Administration) from ever implementing mandatory GE food labeling, and allow food companies to continue to make misleading ‘natural’ claims for foods that contain GE ingredients.”
As people become more disengaged from and apathetic with our political system, the currently elected flock of sheep in both parties have only to look in the mirror to see what is wrong with our system.
Shame on Herrera Beutler, and the Republican and Democrat House members who voted against the interests of the citizens they represent, and instead voted for the interests of one industry that has far more money and influence then the rest of us.
