Hot debris from pellet stove blamed for fire

Debris from a pellet stove appears to have caused the fire at an Five Corners mobile home Thursday night, according to Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Curtis Eavenson.

Firefighters were called to a report of a fire at 8102 N.E. 103rd Court around 7:30 p.m. to find the home aflame.

The fire appeared to have started on the home’s porch, Eavenson said.

The house had a pellet stove, and the chimney went out from the living room and over the home’s porch.

A cleaning access door on the chimney was missing, and Eavenson said he thinks that sent burning material from the stove directly onto the deck.

“It was pretty much a total loss,” he said.

He estimated the fire did about $100,000 in damage between the structure and contents.

Eavenson said he wasn’t sure how many people lived there.

The Red Cross said it provided temporary lodging and other help for two adults.

Police say the house was the scene of an early October attempted murder.

One of the suspects shot and killed himself following a police pursuit in Oregon, and the second awaits trial.
