East Vancouver — At the recent Bonneville Power Administration Science Bowl, Monica Chang of Shahala Middle School was named one of the competition’s all-stars.

The bowl is in its 24th year, and brought more than 300 students from Washington and Oregon to the University of Portland to compete. Chang was one of eight students named an all-star.

While Chang was the only local student honored individually, two local middle schools won arguably the most fun trophy a group of science students can win: an Albert Einstein bobblehead.

Shahala and King’s Way Christian Middle School won the prizes as part of the competition’s SciClips contest. SciClips is in its second year, and it’s a video competition sponsored by Google in which teams create videos talking about how much they like science.

In addition to the bobblehead, winning teams also won gift certificates for supplies for their sponsoring school’s science laboratory.
