Community notebook: Student mountain bike league forming

A Wednesday meeting in Camas will provide information about the Washington Student Mountain Bike League.

The 2015 season will be the fifth for the league for students in grades 6-12. The Washington Student Mountain Bike League competes in the spring. In 2014, the final race of the season was held at Washougal MX Park.

Wednesday’s meeting is scheduled 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Camas Bike and Sport, 403 N.E. Fifth Ave., in Camas.

In addition to an opportunity for students to register for the 2015 season, this meeting will include a presentation about the league and a chance to ask questions.

Youth lacrosse clinic is Sunday

Vancouver Youth Lacrosse will host chance for players to try lacrosse from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Gaiser Middle School, 3000 N.E. 99th St. The clinic is free and lacrosse sticks will be provided.

Vancouver Youth Lacrosse is for boys and girls in grades 1-8. Teams are forming now for the spring season. Teams are divided by four grade-level divisions: grades 1-2, grades 3-4, grades 5-6 and grades 7-8.

A chance to sign up for the spring season and to meet coaches will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 13 at the Burgerville restaurant at 9909 N.E. Highway 99.

CCRC Hangover runs draw 153

A total of 153 runners completed one of the Clark County Running Club’s Hangover Runs on Jan. 1.

Jesse McChesney of Vancouver won the 3-mile race by almost 2 minutes. McChesney, 27, was timed in 15 minutes and 20 seconds.

A total of 116 runners completed the 3-miler.

Brandon Krout, 28, was the first of 37 runners to finish the 5-mile race. His time was 31 minutes flat.

The club’s annual New Year’s Day race was held along the Salmon Creek Trail. Complete results are in the Community Sports Scoreboard.

Movie highlights swimmer Missy Franklin

A special showing of “Touch the Wall,” a movie that follows Olympic swimming gold medalist Missy Franklin and silver medalist Kara Lynn Joyce in their quest to get to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, will be shown on Jan. 15 at the Regal Vancouver Plaza.

Columbia River Swim Team is hosting this one-time viewing of the documentary, which is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday is the final day to reserve tickets by visiting https://www.tugg.com/events/12671.
