SEATTLE — A former Washington state PTA president is the new leader of the national organization.

Laura Bay was installed as the national PTA president last month at the organization’s convention in Charlotte, N.C.

Bay had previously been secretary-treasurer of the national PTA and has served on the national board and numerous committees.

The Poulsbo resident was the state president from 2007 to 2009, when she advocated on behalf of state funding for education and a simple majority vote for local school bond measures.

She has been involved in PTA for decades and her three children are now adults. Bay previously worked as an educator in the Bremerton School District and currently works in the district office as a coordinator for assessment and instruction.
