SNOHOMISH — A team of Snohomish firefighters rescued nine ducklings that had been swept into a storm drain.
KOMO-TV reports that Amanda and Andy Heilman saw a mother duck frantically pecking at a storm drain outside their home around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday. The couple called the fire department after discovering baby ducklings in the drain.
Fire District 7 firefighters Michael McConnell, Randy Mickels and Lt. Jeff Thompson responded to the scene and were able to pull eight ducklings from the drain without problems. A ninth duckling remained stuck in a pipe, so the firefighters flushed it out.
Reunited, the duck family waddled away into nearby tall grass.
Fire Chief Gary Meek said it’s not the first time his crews have been called out to rescue animals from a storm drain.
