Dai’lyn Merriweather of Union girls track and field was voted The Columbian’s high school winter sports athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending May 30.

Merriweather collected 35 percent of the 1,852 votes cast by fans to beat out Sammi Hampton of Skyview tennis, who had 33 percent.

Merriweather won the 200-meter state title and helped Union place in the top-3 in 3 relays at the 4A state meet.

The other nominees were Brian Humphreys of Camas golf, Bridget Guiney of Prairie softball and Faith Udy of Woodland golf.

This is the final athlete-of-the-week vote of the 2014-15 school year.
