Weather Eye: Hot temperatures to cool down a bit as the week wears on

Hot, hot, hot! That suns up the weather for the past three days. Loving it? Maybe not. The house can get a bit warm after three days of intense sunshine pounding on the rooftop.

So I have great news for you. A cooling trend begins today and the highs dip from the 80s to the 70s as the week wears on. The brisk northwest winds we had during this hot spell may intensify later in the week, offering great windsurfing weather in the Columbia River Gorge.

Still no rain in sight. Weather forecast charts show weak weather disturbances moving by to our north, keeping the flow of air more off the ocean and tempering those hot days we had.

I’m still collecting last month’s rainfall from around the area and will share that with you soon.

The string of hot days and mild overnight temperatures is boosting our average mean temperature so far this month to 65.5 degrees, four degrees above average. That is impressive for the first week of June. And we did that with a couple of cold days, with highs only in the 60s. Even with the coming cool-down, we will still have highs above average.

Our normal high is 72 degrees and the low 52 degrees. We surpass that on both ends. We were nowhere near the record high for Sunday’s date. Vancouver topped out at 90 degrees and the record high for June 7 is 98 degrees, set way back in 1903.

One year ago today had a high of 73 degrees and a low of 55 degrees. I would say that is quite pleasant and a taste of that day would feel pretty good right now!
