PORTLAND — A 23-year-old motorcyclist is in serious condition after he collided head-on with a car, causing both vehicles to burst into flames.

KATU-TV reports that Sean Henderson collided on his 2002 Kawasaki motorcycle into 56-year-old Cindy Stanley’s 2014 Hyundai Wednesday night.

Washington County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Bob Ray says deputies suspect the motorcycle’s gas tank ruptured, causing both vehicles to ignite.

Bystanders rushed to put out Henderson’s burning clothing. He was taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Stanley, of Beaverton, was driving in the center divider and passing traffic that was stopped when Henderson struck her vehicle. She was not injured. Ray says she was cited for improper use of a special turn lane.
