A wild-card entry into the tournament, the Washington Timbers Green girls soccer team from Vancouver won a regional soccer championship.

With a 2-0 win on Sunday over the Rainier Valley Slammers, the Timbers Green won the girls under-17 championship of the U.S. Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup. The victory avenged a loss to the Slammers in the Washington Youth Soccer Presidents Cup state tournament and earned the team a spot in the Presidents Cup nationals.

Alexa Bowmer and Jillian Bolke scored in the championship match for Timbers Green. Bowmer scored in the 24th minute and Bolke made it 2-0 just before halftime.

The U.S. Youth Soccer Presidents Cup is the national tournament for teams below the most competitive tier where teams compete for the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship. The Presidents Cup national tournament will take place July 9-12 in Overland Park, Kan.

This regional tournament took place Wednesday through Sunday in Snohomish and included three teams from California, three from Washington, two from Arizona, two from Utah, one from Oregon and one from Colorado.

Timbers Green, which outscored its opponents 19-2 in the regional, had two wins and a draw to finish atop its group in the round-robin stage. In the quarterfinals, the Vancouver team won 4-0 against a team from Granada, Calif. In the semifinals, Timbers Green won 2-1 over a team from Kaysville, Utah.

Alex Sanders of Timbers Green finished second in the tournament in goals, with seven in six matches.

Most of the Timbers Green players will be high school seniors in the fall. An exception is goalkeeper Lily Delgadillo, who plans to play college soccer at Montana.

The Timbers roster includes Bolke, Bowmer, Makyla Croco, Delgadillo, Taylor Germer, Riley Gray, Emma Jimenez, Meleah Kainu, Rylee Macdonald, Alyssa Mehan, Nicolle Ohama, Sanders, Olivia Schmitz, Amanda Shi, Brooke Shirley, Madison Smit, Madison Veltkamp and Sarah Yang. The team is coached by Senad Ramic.
