Several people have reported getting a call from someone posing as a Vancouver police officer, demanding payment for overdue fines and fees.

The scam call appears to be from the Vancouver Police Department, showing a legitimate number on caller ID, said agency spokeswoman Kim Kapp. Scammers can use technology to “spoof” numbers, or make it appear they’re calling from a number that they’re not actually calling from.

“We don’t call people and collect any financial info or personal info over the phone,” Kapp said.

The police department advises people against providing any personal information when they get unsolicited calls.
