An 18-year-old man faces a charge of first-degree assault after he allegedly stabbed another man in the stomach.

Mason James Cruze of Vancouver was driving in the 600 block of Southeast 110th Avenue just after 1 a.m. Saturday when he spotted Gabriel Jimenez walking home from work, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Clark County Superior Court.

Cruze recognized Jimenez from a previous confrontation and challenged him to a fight, according to court documents.

As the fight began, Cruze stabbed Jimenez in the stomach and then said, “good luck (expletive)” before fleeing the area, according to Vancouver police.

Police identified Cruze as the suspect and arrested him Sunday.

Jimenez was treated at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center and released later on Saturday.

Cruze’s bail was set at $100,000 and he is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges March 13.
