BEND, Ore. — Authorities say an Oregon man who told deputies he was shot by an intruder actually shot himself.

The Bulletin newspaper reports that the 40-year-old man told deputies Monday he was shot at his home east of Bend by an intruder wearing a black ski mask.

Deschutes County Sheriff’s Sgt. Deke DeMars said Wednesday the investigation revealed the injury to be a self-inflicted wound. There was no intruder and no danger to the community.

DeMars says case will be forwarded to the Deschutes County district attorney.

The man was treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.
