Police: Man faces murder, weapons charges in shooting death of man in Vernonia, Ore.

VERNONIA, Ore. — Authorities in northwest Oregon say a man has been arrested in a shooting death in Vernonia.

Police Chief Michael Connor identified the victim as Jesse E. Depue.

KGW-TV reported that he was shot Thursday evening and was sent to a Portland hospital.

He had died by the time he arrived.

Police arrested 51-year-old Kirk Travis Avila on murder and weapons charges.

Vernonia is a Coast Range town of about 2,000 people northwest of Portland.
