Construction program offers hands-on training

Clark County residents ages 17 to 24 who do not have a high school diploma and who are interested in obtaining a General Educational Development certification are invited to attend a free YouthBuild Vancouver information session to learn more about the program, the Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council said Monday.

The sessions will be held from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14, and Tuesday, May 26, at Partners in Careers, 3210 N.E. 52nd St. To register, contact Dave Cole at 360-696-8417 or dave@swwpic.or..

Those who enroll in YouthBuild will have the opportunity, at no cost, to obtain their GED or high school diploma, gain two nationally-recognized construction certifications, participate in building a house for a family in need, and receive job-, college- and career-preparation services.

Led by the Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council, YouthBuild represents a collaboration among nonprofits, including Partners in Careers, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity, Vancouver Housing Authority and WorkSource.
