Enrollment open in volcano naturalist class

LONGVIEW — Enrollment is open in the 14-week Mount St. Helens volcano naturalist class begining Jan. 6 at Lower Columbia College.

The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays from Jan. 6 through April 13. There will be two weekend field trips, including one overnight.

The $250 fee covers the class, books, other course materials and a volunteer uniform.

Volcano naturalists will learn the fundaments of Mount St. Helens’ eruptions and are required to commit to a minimum of 60 hours of volunteer work at the peak within five months of completing the course.
