OLD FORGE, N.Y. — Tom Baltes of Camas covered 94 miles Tuesday through the rain of the Adirondacks in New York as he continues on his cycling trip across the northern United States.

“The rain was unfortunate, as we traveled through gorgeous stands of red, orange, rust and gold fall foliage colors along lakes, rivers and over the rolling countryside of the Adirondack Mountains,’’ he wrote Tuesday on his blog. “It really would have been more spectacular on a sunny day.’’

He also adds: “Through much of the morning we were in an area of New York that Jeff Foxworthy might have had a few jokes about, as the rural environment seemed rather impoverished.’’

His trip is to raise awareness and money for the Arthritis Foundation and Volkssporting. Baltes has two siblings with rheumatoid arthritis.

Baltes’ ride plan calls for him to arrive in South Portland, Maine, on Sunday, a journey of 3,890 miles. His progress can be followed via his website at www.tomsbikeride.wordpress.com.
