A Vancouver man made a court appearance Monday for allegedly pointing a gun at a woman, placing her in reasonable fear of being shot and killed.

Charlie Lares-Bejar, 19, allegedly pointed the gun at the woman Saturday at 514 Washington St. in Vancouver and then fled the scene, according to court documents.

She was not injured.

Witnesses took down the license plate of the suspect’s vehicle, and police later found Lares-Bejar after he was involved in a vehicle crash at East Fourth Plain Boulevard and Z Street, court documents state.

Officers noted that the vehicle had a firearm in the passenger seat, according to the court document.

Lares-Bejar made his first appearance Monday on charges of first-degree assault and possession of a controlled substance. Judge Gregory Gonzales held Lares-Bejar on $50,000 bail and scheduled his arraignment hearing for Nov. 2.
