Clark County — More than 50 years ago, 200 junior members, ages 12 to 18, of Washington State Federation of Women’s Clubs’ Columbia District worked with the U.S. Forest Service to plant Douglas fir trees on forest service property near Ape Cave outside Cougar. On Oct. 19, three members of the district, which contains groups in Camas, Vancouver and Battle Ground, attended a dedication of a re-created sign honoring the students’ work in 1961. A photo was taken to show the collaboration between the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and U.S. Forest Service by photographer Roland Emetaz during the original work in 1961. Emetaz was on hand again on Oct. 19 to photograph the sign dedication.
