Morgen Glessing of Woodland crossed the Canadian border on Sunday, completing his 2,650-mile hike on the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail.

Due to wildfires and trail closures, Glessing had to make detours and then take other trails to reconnect to the PCT.

“This proved to be very difficult because some sections had poorly maintained trails and I even had to do some backcountry travel over a few mountains where there was no trail at all,’’ he wrote in an email.

“I am happy to report I walked every step from Mexico to Canada…At times it was the hardest moments of my life, but I always found that for every down there was a greater moment of happiness to come. The moment I saw the Canadian monument was the most bittersweet moment of my life as I realized I had completed my life long dream, but sad that it was over.’’

Glessing raised approximately $1,700 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

His mother picked him up Sunday in British Columbia and took him home to Woodland. Glessing is now back at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he is a junior.

He is studying to be a doctor.

“The transition from trail to school is a strange one,’’ he said on Wednesday.
