Vancouver Public Schools encourages students beginning kindergarten in the 2016-2017 school year to get a jump start on learning about school by attending Kindergarten Jump Start.

Parents can register their child for the free program for incoming kindergartners that takes place a few weeks before the school year begins. Students participate in math, literacy and hands-on learning activities; learn basic daily school routines and become familiar with school surroundings before the first day of school.

Jump Start will be offered at the following elementary schools:

• 9 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 1 through 23: Anderson, Fruit Valley, Harney, Hazel Dell, King, Lincoln, Marshall, Minnehaha, Ogden, Roosevelt, Walnut Grove and Washington elementary schools.

• 9 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 15 through 19: Chinook, Eisenhower, Felida, Franklin, Hough, Lake Shore, Sacajawea, Salmon Creek and Truman elementary schools.

Transportation is not provided. Students will receive a free, nutritious snack daily.

Every incoming kindergartner is welcome to participate.

To register their child for Jump Start, parents should contact their child’s school office. For details visit http://vansd.org/kindergarten/jump-start.
