BIRTHDAY MILESTONE

Lifelong Southwest Washington resident Margaret Chittester of Vancouver is celebrating her 100th birthday today. She was born in Fall Bridge to Ori and Lottie John and had two brothers and one sister. Her family lived in Wishram until 1946, when they moved to Vancouver to follow better jobs and schools. She graduated from Vancouver High School in 1934 and after graduation married Raymond Chittester in Bingen. They had two children.

The majority of her married life, Margaret stayed home caring for her family and transporting her children to various school and sports activities. Raymond worked for the SP&S Railroad.

“Margaret enjoyed playing card games with family and friends, and a good part of the time she was the winner,” according to her granddaughter, Chris Pugsley. She and Raymond also enjoyed bowling and golf.

To this day, Margaret says, she still works the daily crossword puzzle, adding that it is “in ink, mind you.”
