OLYMPIA — The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office in Washington state says Sheriff John Snaza has been critically hurt in a motorcycle crash in Montana.

Lt. Tim Rudloff says in a news release that Snaza suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, which happened Tuesday at about 6 p.m. in Sanders County, Montana.

Snaza was flown to a hospital in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where he was listed in critical but stable condition on Wednesday.

Rudloff says no one else was involved in the crash, and that deputies and employees of the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office are devastated.

Snaza has worked for the sheriff’s office since 1993 and was first elected sheriff in 2011.
