As promised, let’s review some rainfall for December from your friends and neighbors: Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 26.54 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 15.12 inches; Bob Starr, Cougar, 34.99 inches; Phil Delany, Dole Valley, 28.80 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 15.80 inches; Pete Conrad near Tukes Mountain, 15.75 inches; Merle Moore, 2 miles west of Yacolt, 21.29 inches; Dan Hein, Camas, 18.19 inches; Dave Campbell, one mile west of Heisson, 15.78 inches; Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 18.04 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 15.92 inches; Larry Lebsack, Barberton, 16.71 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 16.90 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 21.34 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 17.27 inches; Murphy Dennis, Rawson Road near Clark Rifles, 22.42 inches; Tom Dixon, Amboy, 24.05 inches; and our friend, Roland Derksen from the Vancouver up north with 11.09 inches. I measured 16.05 inches in the Salmon Creek area.
As you can see, these are phenomenal amounts, likely records for most. I doubt we will see heavy rain like that in any one month for a while (hopefully). More rain is on tap for today, Wednesday and Thursday right through the weekend. Thursday’s rain could be on the heavy side with 3 to 5 inches in the coastal mountains and Cascades. Some rivers will get near flood stage.
Lots of snow this week with the exception of sometime Thursday when snow levels bounce to 7,000 feet before dropping over the weekend. So whatever falls today and Thursday could be taken away some by warm heavy rains. Or maybe it will just soak it up and consolidate.
Weather observer Bob Starr was the winner last month with 34.99 inches. He added that for 2015 he measured 126.01 inches, more than three times what downtown Vancouver usually receives annually. The least amount reported was the “other” Vancouver, where Derksen recorded 11.09 inches.
