University of Washington senior Kristina Owsinski claimed the women’s pole vault title at the UW Indoor Preview meet Friday and Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor facility.

The Prairie High School graduate matched her indoor personal record with a clearance of 14 feet, 2 inches — putting her fourth on the season’s performance list.

The All-American’s clearance of 14-2 last year secured her a place at the NCAA Division I indoor championships.

With the victory secure, Owsinski made three attempts at 14-6, which would have been an indoor school record to go with the one she has outdoors, but was unable to clear that height.

Owsinski led a 1-2-3 sweep in the event by the Huskies, with the runner-up clearing 13-6.25.

Sac State’s McCartney MPSF gymnast of week

Sacramento State senior Kalliah McCartney was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week following the Hornets’ road win over San Jose State.

Vancouver’s McCartney, a graduate of CAM High School in Battle Ground who trained at Multnomah Athletic Club of Portland, earned individual wins in all-around and on beam.

McCartney totaled 39.075 points in her four events to earn her 12th all-around title of her career. She finished first on beam with a 9.850, was second on floor (9.875), third on vault (9.800) and tied for ninth on bars (9.550).

It marks the first MPSF weekly honor for McCartney, who is back after taking a medical redshirt season last year. She was named Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week three times in 2013 before the Hornets changed affiliations.
