Letter: Say farewell to Madore, Mielke

By Donald Baiar, VANCOUVER

Councilors David Madore and Tom Mielke, upon exiting county politics, will perform their most valuable service ever. For Madore, hopefully that exit is soon.

After reading the damning report from attorney Rebecca Dean’s detailed investigation (“$100,218: That’s sum of legal bills county must pay due to Madore charges,” July 8, The Columbian), I would think any reasonable person would resign rather than inflict more grievous losses and wounds on themselves or the county.

But Madore is not a reasonable man. From the beginning, his messianic evangelical, wrecking ball, “my way” foray into city/county politics and far-right GOP dogma has lessened us, made us mistrusting of each other and of the good government our county is accustomed to with both sides respectful and usually able to find the common good.

Kudos go to The Columbian for hiring a dogged editor and skilled metro/county staff reporters to accurately expose and report on Madore’s and Mielke’s incompetence and resulting counterproductive decisions from the time they entered into far-right sectarian political activism.

Depending on the reach of your online and print editions, we will probably say farewell to Madore in November, or sooner if he chooses wisely to withdraw his candidacy.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
