Clark College men’s soccer coach Brett Jacobs has been named head coach of the Portland Timbers under-23 team.

Jacobs will continue as the coach of the Penguins and as the technical director of the Washington Timbers, the Timbers Alliance youth soccer club in Vancouver. He has also served as a radio analyst for Timbers broadcasts since 2013.

The Timbers U-23s play in the Premier Development League. They are 1-3-3 and in sixth place in the Northwest Division. Jacobs replaces Jim Rilatt, who recently stepped down after guiding the Timbers U-23s for the program’s first seven seasons.

So far this season, Clark County natives Collin Partee, Peter Prescott, Niko De Vera and Anthony Macchione have seen action for the team.

The Timbers U-23s played the Kitsap Pumas on Friday in Salem, Ore. The team will play on June 25 at Doc Harris Stadium in Camas against the Sounders under-23s.
