Community notebook: Union lacrosse earns top seed

Three wins separated Union Lacrosse from its rivals in the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association, clinching the top seed from the Central-South Division for the Division II state playoffs.

On April 26, Union beat Columbia River 15-2 in a match featuring the top two teams in the division. Andrew Harrah and Isaiah Pratt each scored five times and had two assists as Union outshot River 40-10.

On Friday, Union edged Richland 7-6 in a match at Harmony Sports Complex. Parker Lindhorst and Jonathan Stell scored two goals apiece, and goalie Dominic Mendez made 11 saves.

On Saturday, 12 players scored goals for Union in a 15-1 win over visiting Selah to improve to 8-0 in league play and 10-4 overall. Union plays Camas at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Camas High School’s Cardon Field, then visits Southridge of Kennewick on Saturday to complete the regular season.

Results of Columbia River’s Saturday home match against Southridge were not reported. River (5-2) completes its league schedule with a Saturday trip to Richland and a May 10 match at Camas.

In its only match last week, Camas (2-5, 3-8) lost to visiting Southridge 10-3 on Friday. After playing Union on Tuesday, Camas visits Selah on Saturday before hosting Columbia River on May 10 to complete the season.

Girls lacrosse

Evergreen Lacrosse Club will complete the high school girls lacrosse season on Saturday by hosting Bellevue at McKenzie Stadium.

The varsity match starts at noon.

Evergreen tied for fourth place in the Peninsula Division and was 2-8 overall entering a Monday match at Holy Names Academy.

ELC won once in three games last week, beating Klahowya 10-6 on the road. Shayna Davis scored three goals and Cassidy Morris and Zoe Smith each scored two goals. Also scoring were Maecy Arthur, Melody Hollar and McKenna Miller.

In a 18-6 loss on April 26 to division-leading Belllarmine Prep, Hollar scored three goals, Davis scored two goals and Audrey Thompson one. On Saturday, Davis scored the only goal in a 24-1 loss to Newport-Sammamish-Interlake.

Union rugby going to S.F. tourney

Union Titans Rugby completed an unbeaten league season on April 30 with a 66-10 win over the Reynolds Raiders at Delta Park. Man of the match for Union (7-0) was awarded to Avery Longrie.

Union will be the top seed for the Rugby Oregon Varsity Premiership playoffs that begin on May 14.

This week Union travels to San Francisco for the Pacific Cup, a tournament that features eight top programs from around the country. Union is seeded seventh in the eight-team field and will open the tournament at 3 p.m. Thursday against second seed Kahuku High School from Hawaii. The tournament concludes on Saturday.

Union’s No. 2 team (1-5-1) concluded its league schedule with a 42-7 loss to Oregon City.

Prairie 10, Lincoln 10 — Carson Slagle was named player of the day for Prairie in a draw with Lincoln of Portland. Brendan May was strong on the line-outs for Prairie and Yousef Kitali had a solid match, according to coach John Fletcher.

Prairie (1-3-2) plays Summit from Bend, Ore., next Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Laurin Middle School.

Newberg 14, Battle Ground 10 — Battle Ground remained winless in league play. It will host Reynolds at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Laurin Middle School to conclude the regular season. Also on Saturday, the Batte Ground girls rugby team hosts West Linn at 11 a.m. at Laurin Middle School. Results were not reported from the girls April 30 match against North Clackamas.

Beaverton A 40, Clark County 5 — In the Club Championship Division for teams with players from multiple high schools, the Clark County Warriors lost to Beaverton Barbarians A team 40-5 on April 30. Clark County (3-4) concludes the regular season this Saturday by playing at 1 p.m. in McMinnville against the Valley Rams.

Pacific FC girls 2nd in Oregon cup

The Pacific FC Ice girls under-14 soccer team lost on penalty kicks in the championship of the Oregon Youth Soccer Presidents Cup state tournament.

Pacific FC rallied from a 3-0 deficit to finish in a 4-4 draw with the BSC Portland Legends before losing 5-4 on penalty kicks in Sunday’s final at Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation.

Shalece Easley scored two goals in the championship game for Pacific FC, and Sophie Connell and Olivia Colgate scored one apiece.

In Saturday’s semifinal match, the Ice beat Portland City United Red 3-0. Grace Maruca and Julia Cash scored off corner kicks from Jamie Jeschke, and Colgate scored from an Easley assist.

Other players for the Ice were Ellie Christian, Daniela de la Paz, Sydney Flores-Tucker, Adamaris Jimenez-Sifuentes, Taylor Lindsey, Claire Scott, Makenna Stansberry, Isabella Stromme, Ryan Wilks, and Katie Willis. The coaches were Chris Connell, Jeff Maruca, and Brent Stansberry.

Youth soccer teams from Southwest Washington may play in either Washington or Oregon leagues and state tournaments. The Presidents Cup is the second of three state tournaments staged by Oregon Youth Soccer, and is designed for competitive teams.

Women’s football team unbeaten

The Portland Fighting Shockwave improved to 4-0 in the Women’s Football Alliance on Saturday with a 47-0 win at Everett.

The women’s tackle football team, which includes players from Clark County, will play its final two home games of the season at Hillsboro Stadium on May 7 against Tacoma and on May 14 against Everett. Those games kick off at 6 p.m.

Tickets cost $10, with discounts for students, seniors and members of the military, and no charge for children younger than 12.

RACC reminder

More than 1,000 cyclists are expected to hit the road on Saturday for the 33rd edition of the Ride Around Clark County. Cyclists can choose routes that cover 18, 34, 53, 66 or 100 miles.

Riders register and depart from Hanna Hall on the Clark College Campus, 1820 Fort Vancouver Way in Vancouver. The course opens at 6:30 a.m. Cyclists must be on the road by 9 a.m.
