Officers cut 13 tickets and made two intoxicated driving arrests Thursday as part of enhanced patrols meant to counter driving under the influence for Cinco de Mayo.

Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said for one DUI arrest, officers noted a driver was driving in the oncoming lanes of travel when stopped.

He “stated he wasn’t that drunk and felt his driving wasn’t affected by his alcohol use,” Kapp said. Officers made 56 contacts and issued 13 warnings.

The extra patrols, which included officers from the Vancouver and Battle Ground police departments, were paid for through a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

The grant is going toward advertising material and extra patrols for intoxicated drivers through the year.
