A fire severely damaged a home in Battle Ground on Monday afternoon, though no injuries were reported.

Just before 1 p.m., firefighters from Clark County Fire District 3 responded to a fire moving through a house at 2611 N.W. Sixth St.

District 3 Battalion Chief Dave O’Brien said the fire, which started at the back of the house and showed visible flames from the attic of the two-story home, was under control in 25 minutes. The incident caused the roof above the attic to partially collapse, and portions of the home were charred.

“There was pretty extensive damage to the second floor,” O’Brien said.

The homeowners were away when the fire broke out, and a dog that was at home during the blaze escaped unscathed. After the dog got out of the house, it quickly was corralled by neighbors, according to a press release from Fire District 3.

The three classic cars in the garage suffered only minor damage.

O’Brien, giving a rough, “unscientific” estimate, said the home itself sustained about $75,000 in damage.

The home is owned by Cora and Donald Luttmers, according to county property records.

Clark County Fire & Rescue, the Vancouver Fire Department and the Battle Ground Police Department also assisted at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office.
