BEAVERTON, Ore. — Portland police arrested a driver after he struck and killed a 77-year-old cyclist on Memorial Day.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that Willard Tow was accused of driving under the influence, first-degree manslaughter and reckless driving.

Police say Tow hit and killed 77-year-old Andrzej Kurkowski of Beaverton, Ore., as he rode his bicycle on Monday.

Tow was booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

Investigators think Tow and Kurkowski were eastbound on Southwest Multnomah Boulevard about 4 p.m. Monday when Tow struck the cyclist from behind at a high rate of speed.

Police say speed and intoxication were factors in the wreck.
